September 19, 2008 - Theatre Recap presents “Witch Hazel: The Tale of Two Wise Women”

Theatre Recap recently presented their newest production called “Witch Hazel: The Tale of Two Wise Women” with proceeds going to the Assaulted Women’s Helpline. The story chronicled both the past and present tribulations of two confined women; Sarah, a Puritan charged with witchcraft, and Katya, a prisoner in Stalin’s Gulag.  The two women gain awareness of each other, and through their similarities and differences, cultivate a relationship that explores the commonality of persecution throughout history.

The play opened for 4 days in September at the Palmerston Theatre and AWHL staff and volunteers were at hand to help with flyer distribution and ticket sales. Every ticket buyer received AWHL information in their program which helped cultivate more awareness in the community.

Thank you to all of the staff and volunteers who came out to help. A bigger thanks to Laura Cockburn and Colin Oliver for choosing AWHL has their beneficiary.

Theatre Recap is a Toronto-based collective dedicated to the development of new work that utilises theatre as a tool for enacting positive social change, both locally and overseas. Founded in the spring of 2005 by Laura Cockburn and Colin Oliver, Theatre Recap employs the craft of theatre to promote the interests of charitable and not-for-profit organisations whenever possible, and is committed to educating ourselves and each other about the change we can both be and inspire.
