It was another successful year for team Assaulted Women’s Helpline (AWHL) at the 2008 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon. With more than 13,000 participants, 2008 was the first year the Canada Running Series put a cap on the event. That led the team to quickly scramble and get all of their friends and family registered in time.
2008 also welcomed a new start and finish line at Nathan Phillips Square. With more than 130 participants on the team, AWHL was well represented in all three run events. There were 4 participants in the full marathon, 29 participants in the half marathon, and 97 participants in the 5K. The team fundraised an astounding $42,000!!!
Because of the overwhelming response from community supporters, the top 10 pledge raisers each received a prize for their fundraising efforts. A big round of applause to:

Team Assaulted Women’s Helpline continues to have a strong presence at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon. Without your help, we couldn’t continue to give the other charities some serious competition in the Charity Challenge. We hope to continue our success and continue to raise awareness in the community and raise the critical funds for our crisis lines.
Thank you to each of the runners and all of their friends and family who supported their pledge raising campaigns. It is because of your help that we can make a difference for the thousands of women who access our services. |
