Team AWHL Wins Again at the 2007 STWM!
Team Assaulted Women's Helpline continues to make an impact at the 2007 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon. With several other events occurring on September 30th, and half of the downtown core closed down, our amazing team of 140 people trekked down to make it our best year yet. Not only did we surpass our goal of $38,000, thanks to you, we raised more than $50,000!!
We are proud and excited to announce that our team once again one the top prize for largest team size at the event which came complete with a generous $7500 reward from our friends at Scotiabank. Hooray!
Our team was certainly well represented in all three events and many of us made personal best times. We had 5 members participate in the full marathon, 21 members participated in the half marathon, and 114 members ran and walked the 5K. We welcomed back many of our returning members and our corporate team at Royal LePage/39 Wynford Drive. With your strong recruitment efforts, we also brought on new members and new corporate teams, including Sherrard Kuzz LLP and cleaningequipment.ca.
We want to send a huge thank you and congratulations to Omo Akintan who raised more than $3000 for our team. Rounding out our top 5 pledge raisers, thank you to Christine Speer, Pamela Kempthorne (from Royal LePage Shelter Foundation), Scott Lapstra, and Lori Miller for a superb job in pledge raising.
A big round of applause goes to our t-shirt sponsors, Royal LePage Shelter Foundation, Running Room, and Whole Foods. Thanks to you, our team had the best looking t-shirts in the marathon.
We also want to thank and recognize our fabulous in-kind donors who provided prizes for our team contests:
- Fresh
- Sutton Place Hotel
- Lone Star
- Danier Leather
- Dufferin Mall
- Home Sense/Winners
- Nadarra Skin Care
Your ongoing support, generosity, and enthusiasm continues to make Team Assaulted Women's Helpline have a strong presence in the marathon, no matter which event you participate in. We give the 40 other charities, many of which are much larger than us, strong competition. Not only have you helped us raise awareness in our community, you helped us raise the critical funds for our crisis lines. We sincerely hope you continue to help us end violence against women by participating in the 2008 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon.
Thanks to each of you for making the 2007 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon a huge success. We couldn't have done it without you.
Together we ARE making a difference in the many lives of women who access our services.
