/ Press Releases For Immediate Release: "Tour of the Parks": Assaulted Women's Helpline and Dreadrock Records to Launch a New Kind of Green Project. August 24th, 2005, Toronto - In efforts to raise funds and awareness to end violence against women while savouring Toronto's green space, Dreadrock Records' singer/songwriter, Melissa Larkin, has joined the Assaulted Women's Helpline (AWHL) by offering free acoustic performances in our cities' public parks. Every Saturday and Sunday at 2:00pm, Melissa Larkin will be touring different parks across downtown Toronto. The event utilizes our public space for creative initiatives and enhances the enjoyment of our parks. All performances are free of charge; people are however, encouraged to make a donation to the AWHL who will be at the parks alongside Melissa Larkin. Since 1985, the AWHL has offered a toll-free telephone crisis line to all women in the province of Ontario who experience abuse. They provide counselling, emotional support, safety planning, information and referrals in up to 154 languages. This life-saving service allows women to reach out for help free of charge, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, assured of their anonymity and confidentiality. Melissa Larkin's expanding fan base across the globe is attributed to her poignant and honest use of rhythmic spoken word pieces, mesmerizing ballads and rootsy, patois reggae. Notable listeners include Xavier Rudd, Amos Lee, Jack Johnson and Toronto's own international-touring act, Nine Mile.
